"Nothing prepared me for the surreal beauty of Jiuzhaigou's Five-Colored Pool. In autumn, the reflection of red maple and golden birch leaves in Mirror Lake creates such perfect symmetry that you'll question which way is up. When evening approaches and the tour buses leave, the valley returns to its serene state - this is when you can truly appreciate why these waters are considered sacred by local Tibetan communities.
